Shirley Day-Salmon

(Graz) - Lecturer „Advanced Studies in Music and Dance Education – Orff-Schulwerk“Elemental Music & Dance Education – Orff Institute

Shirley Salmon studied music (York University, England), trained as a kindergarten and primary school teacher (Froebel Institute, London), and studied educational sciences (Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck). After teaching in London she moved to Austria in 1977 and took further training. She has worked for over 40 years as a music and movement teacher with children, young people and adults with different talents and disabilities in extracurricular and school institutions and contexts (including children's homes, support centres, kindergartens, schools, family groups, summer weeks for families) and as a freelancer particularly in inclusive groups. 

She lectured at the Orff Institute of the Mozarteum University 1984 - 2019, where she established the study focus 'Music and Dance in Social Work and Inclusive Pedagogy', led the in-service university course of the same name, as well as symposia and summer courses. From 2000 - 2015 she taught at the teacher training universities in Graz. She has been president of the International Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzburg since 2018. 

She gives lectures, workshops and courses nationally and internationally and has published books, a DVD and numerous articles.
