Ari Glage
Ari Glage has been a lecturer at the Orff Institute since 2006. A major focus of his interests relates to the phenomenon of rhythm in all its musical and artistic facets. In particular, full-body approaches, such as body percussion, as well as the use of the rhythmic-melodic voice as a tool in the pedagogical teaching of rhythm, enable students to gain well-founded elementary rhythm experiences.
He studied ‘Elementary Music and Movement Pedagogy’ at the Orff Institute from 1987-1993.
During his studies, he also intensively studied the drumming and percussion cultures of Brazil (including Dudu Tucci) and West Africa. He completed additional training and courses with Reinhard Flatischler, among others. After completing his studies, he began a freelance career as a drum and rhythm teacher with children and adults. He was active as a percussionist in various formations (including ‘Kakilambe’).
Since 2003, together with Karin Mitterbauer, he has successfully offered four consecutive training programmes for ‘Integrative Drum and Rhythm Pedagogy’ in Salzburg. As leader of the Brazilian percussion group ‘Tudo Bem’ and member of the samba group ‘Arcoiris’, he continues to deepen his involvement with Brazilian music. From 2000-2004 he completed his training as a TaKeTiNa hythm teacher (‘Advanced Rhythm Teacher’) with Reinhard Flatischer.
Since 2006, he has been a lecturer at the Orff Institute in the areas of music improvisation, elementary music-making, didactic practical training, transdisciplinary design projects, elementary music theatre for children, as well as a lecturer in university courses and the ‘International Summer Course’. His work also focuses on the method of ‘Circle Singing’ in freely improvised singing formats.
From 2009-2022, he was also commissioned to teach rhythm training in the ‘Pre-College’ programme at the Mozarteum University. His artistic and pedagogical expertise is continuously being expanded through extensive international course work in workshops and teacher training.
