Kerstin Pleschonig has been a lecturer at the Mozarteum University since 2017 in the Department of Musicology with a focus on folk music research and education and has also been teaching music education since 2018. She also works as a music teacher at the Upper Austrian State Music School Association and as a musician, juror, lecturer and organizer of folk music training courses throughout the Alpine region.
Kerstin Pleschonig (*1982) completed both her IGP studies for folk music instruments (diatonic harmonica, accordion, diatonic and chromatic hammered dulcimer) in Graz (2004) and her master's degree in diatonic harmonica at the Mozarteum University Salzburg (2006) with distinction.
During her time as a study assistant to associate professor Dr. Thomas Hochradner, she worked on musicological publications such as Lieder und Schnaderhüpfl um 1900 aus dem Sammelgut des Arbeitsausschusses für das Volkslied in Salzburg (= Corpus Musicae Popularis Austriacae 19) or Thematisches Werkverzeichnis der Werke von Johann Joseph Fux, Band 1. She was involved in the scientific processing of the musical estate of Tobi Reiser on behalf of the Salzburg Museum.
In addition to her doctoral studies, Kerstin Pleschonig has published CD reviews and articles for the Austrian Volksliedwerke and the Bavarian magazine Sänger&Musikanten since 2007. She has written musicological articles in specialist journals and books, such as „Von der Vielseitigkeit der Volksmusikinstrumente", in: Phoibos. Zeitschrift für Zupfinstrumente (2009) or „Geschichte und Wandel der Volkstanzmusik in Österreich und Südtirol", in: Volkstanz zwischen den Zeiten (2012). But the connection to music practicing has always been of great importance to her, so she has also worked as an editor of sheet music editions for the Styrian Volksliedwerk (2006-2011) and in her own publishing house „Traedition".
Since 2021, Kerstin Pleschonig has also been a lecturer at musicological symposia, such as the symposium of the ÖGMw Young Musicology Vienna, the DVSM Young Musicians' Symposium in Germany and the symposium "Dance Music in the Alpine Region" at the University Mozarteum Innsbruck.
Due to her certification for lateral entry in general education and the completion of the three-stage aptitude assessment procedure as a teacher for the subject „music education" at Austrian schools, Kerstin Pleschonig is now also working as a teacher at a music middle school from March 2024.
Nevertheless, writing her dissertation on „Von traditioneller Tanzmusik zu konzertanter Volksmusik. Musizieren mit der Diatonischen Harmonika in Salzburg“" in her PhD studies remains a current work and heart project.
