Roland Mayer-Sams has been in contact with folk music since early childhood, so in the family were sung folk songs in several voices. In addition to a piano training, the way led him to the diatonic harmonica through the Brauchtumsgruppe Straßwalchen.

Roland Mayer-Sams has been teaching at the Upper Austrian State Music School since 2005 and has been the head of the folk music department there since 2012. In addition to his music school work, he has been a lecturer at the Mozarteum University since 2017. In addition, he passes on his knowledge as a speaker at numerous training courses in Austria, Bavaria and South Tyrol. Roland Mayer-Sams is artistically active as a soloist and as a member of the ensembles Tennriedlmusi and Hochwies Klarinettenmusi.
