Christiane Büttig

Christiane Büttig studied music and sports sciences in Rostock and Greifswald, as well as conducting in Dresden. Master classes with, among others, Simon Halsey complemented the conductor's training. She also gained additional experience as a singer with the VocalConsort Berlin, the Dresden Chamber Choir, and the KlangVerwaltung Choir, performing under conductors such as Blomstedt, Chailly, Nagano, and many others. From 2012 to 2024, Christiane Büttig led the Dresden University Choir and its chamber choir, conducting over 200 concerts of various musical styles and genres in Germany and abroad. She collaborated with orchestras such as the Batzdorfer Hofkapelle, Cappella Sagittariana, Sinfonietta Dresden, Elbland Philharmonic Saxony, Saxon Wind Philharmonic, Ensemble Courage, Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and members of the Sächsische Staatskapelle.

Between 2012 and 2022, she took on numerous choral preparations at the Semperoper Dresden and Staatsschauspiel Dresden, including productions of King Arthur, Moscow, Cheryomushki, Karl May, Room of Truth (world premiere), The Princess and the Pea, Nabucco, Fidelio, Lobgesang, Antigone, The Collector of Worlds, and The Big Notebook. In the 2021/2022 season, she served as the deputy second chorus director of the Semperoper and prepared the world premiere of The Other Woman by Thorsten Rasch.
Since 2019, she has been the artistic director of the KlangVerwaltung Choir. Guest conducting engagements have taken Christiane Büttig to Austria, Poland, Denmark, the UK, Switzerland, the Radio Choir in Paris, the MSO Chorus in Melbourne, and Vokal Nord in Tromsø. From 2017 to 2021, she was the director of the international choral academy “In terra pax.”

She recently collaborated with the Salzburg Bach Choir at the Bruckner Festival in Linz, performing Mahler's Symphony No. 3 and Das klagende Lied (2021) under Markus Poschner, as well as Mahler's Symphony No. 3 with Riccardo Minasi and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. At the Salzburg Easter Festival, she served as chorus director for Turandot (2021—canceled due to COVID), Mozart Requiem (2021), and Lohengrin under the baton of Christian Thielemann. In September 2024, she was responsible for preparing the choir of over 270 singers for Brahms' Nänie, Schicksalslied, and Die Parzen under the overall direction of Kent Nagano for the 1st Academy Concert at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg with the Hamburg State Orchestra.

Between 2022 and 2024, Christiane Büttig taught at the Munich University of Music and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
