Passages from an ongoing Research on Conducting and Curating
The seminar gives insight into the FWF PEEK project AR 721 “THE ATLAS (OF CREATIVE MECHANISMS): [CURATING-CONDUCTING] led by Basak Senova, an artistic research project that explores the comparative analysis between curating and conducting. It aims to discover new ways of perceiving creative mechanisms in contemporary art (curated after 2000) and concert music (conducted after 2000).

THE ATLAS (OF CREATIVE MECHANISMS): [CURATING-CONDUCTING] is an artistic research project that explores the comparative analysis between curating and conducting. It aims to discover new ways of perceiving creative mechanisms in contemporary art (curated after 2000) and concert music (conducted after 2000).
While the research investigates the performative functions of these two disciplines, its theoretical framework includes concepts of interactive, inter-relational, and participant knowledge. THE ATLAS bridges research and practice by comparing knowledge generated from clustered data.
The theoretical framework encompasses concepts of interactive, inter-relational, and participant knowledge of both curatorial and conductorial practices. The research questions and explores original pathways in interdisciplinary presentation and performance research, focussed on revealing tacit mechanisms of curating and conducting. It is important to recognize there has been no significant research directly linking and exploring the relationship between curating and conducting. THE ATLAS is a PEEK project awarded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and hosted by the Institute of Art Sciences and Art Education, University of Applied Arts Vienna.
