The work of the Leopold Mozart Institute is dedicated to the encouragement and promotion of young talent. Within the Pre-College, talented young musicians receive high-level musical tuition and academic support to prepare them for entry to degree level programmes. The Gifted & Talented programme also serves the needs of musically gifted children and teenagers, providing them with mentoring and guidance.

Encouragement of Talented Students

Direction: Andreas Weber

In addition to the Pre-College, the Mozarteum University has its own Gifted & Talented programme that promotes the advancement and personal development of highly gifted children and teenagers and provides them with guidance and support. The aim is to identify musically gifted children and young people and to provide individual, intensive, sustainable support as they explore and develop their own artistic personality.

The work of the institute includes organising events inside and outside the university, preparing and mentoring students participating in international competitions, cooperation with international festivals, organising international concert opportunities, establishing contacts with agencies and other such institutions, and documenting students’ activities and success.

As well as encouraging and promoting the talents of musically gifted children and young people, the institute is dedicated to providing adequate counselling and conducting case-study research. The academic work and publications focus on the areas of music teaching and learning; topics range from the development of musical competences and personality development to artistic pedagogy and support strategies for musically gifted children and young people.

Students already participating in the Pre-College programme can be admitted to the Gifted & Talented programme by undergoing a separate selection procedure.

Prerequisites for admission to the Gifted & Talented programme are at least two completed semesters of study at the Pre-College and the completion of a separate admissions examination. Students in the Gifted & Talented programme remain students of the Pre-College.
