Bella Musica with original violin by W. A. Mozart in Lucca
This year's Bella Musica tour promises an extraordinary highlight: for the first time, the original violin by W. A. Mozart will be presented in the city of Lucca on 28 August 2024 as part of the Bella Musica tour. This unique opportunity is made possible by a new collaboration with the Mozarteum Foundation.

On 21 August 2024, 17 young students from the Mozart cities will follow in Mozart's footsteps under the direction of Stefan David Hummel. Participants from Dresden (Hochschule für Musik Dresden Carl Maria von Weber) and Bolzano (Conservatorio Claudio Monteverdi Bolzano) will be taking part for the first time. Other students come from Salzburg (Mozarteum University Salzburg) and Rome (Conservatorio Santa Cecilia Rome). In addition to the absolute highlight in Lucca, the tour includes debut performances at the Chigiana International Festival in Siena, at the Summer Festival in Cremona and for the first time in Milan. In Milan, they will play in the church where the work Exultate Jubilate by W. A. Mozart was premiered. Further concerts will take place in Avigliano/Terni, Rome, Verona, Nogaredo and Bolzano.
Rector Prof. Elisabeth Gutjahr emphasises: ‘Our thanks go to all initiators, sponsors and private supporters for the realisation of this remarkable project.’ Vice-Rector Dr Mario Kostal adds: ‘The project is aimed at the core of our university's guiding principles: we promote encounters between young artists and make significant contributions to the arts. Our international reputation as a centre for Mozart's music is a constant challenge.’
Linus Klumpner, Director of the Salzburg Mozart Museums: ‘By taking part in a concert on the tour, we are not only supporting the founding idea of the European Mozart Routes. Primarily, we are fulfilling the most important mission of the International Mozarteum Foundation to carry the memory of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart and his oeuvre into the world and make it accessible to those who are unable to visit the memorials in Salzburg. Bella Musica also stands for the next generation of musicians who, like us, live and represent this approach sustainably.’
‘That's the face of Europe we want to see’, as one listener put it, filling Stefan David Hummel, founder and director of the project, with joy: ’The Bella Musica project shows how young musicians from different countries - Austria, Ukraine, Germany and Italy - find a common language through music. In a world full of challenges, it is music that brings us together and shows that there are always ways of peaceful coexistence - a legacy of Mozart's European enthusiasm.’
European Mozart Ways
The European Mozart Routes are the only cultural route of the Council of Europe that puts a musician at the centre. They revitalise tourist routes and promote artistic, cultural and scientific cooperation. The network was founded in 2006 to mark Mozart's 250th birthday. Since 2014, youth choirs and orchestras have been honoured as ‘Young Ambassadors of the European Mozart Routes’, including the Ensemble Bella Musica Mozarteum since 2017.
