Romed Hopfgartner studied saxophone with Florian Bramböck at the Tyrolean State Conservatory and with Wolfgang Puschnig at the University of Music & Performing Arts in Vienna. He has been active in numerous jazz bands, chamber music ensembles, big bands, orchestras and theaters in Austria and abroad, most notably with the internationally successful Musicbanda Franui, where he plays saxophone, clarinet and composes. As a theater musician and composer, he gained experience in renowned houses, including the Salzburg Festival, Burgtheater Vienna, Volkstheater Vienna, Vereinte Bühnen Bolzano and at the Landestheater Innsbruck. in 2016 he received the Jazz Prize of the City of Innsbruck and in 2018 the Annual Prize of the German Record Critics with Franui for the CD "Ständchen der Dinge".
