Expanding horizons with music The art and love of the viola led German Tcakulov from Vladikavkaz to St. Petersburg, on to Berlin, Munich, Karlsruhe and now to Salzburg, where he took up a professorship for viola on 1 October 2024.

In autumn 2024, bass-baritone Lisandro Abadie, actress Hanna Binder, conductor Christiane Büttig, visual artist Annette Fauvel, guitarists Giuseppe Feola and Bozhana Pavlova, cultural and media scientist Paul Feigelfeld, composer Laure M. Hiendl, pianist Lei Meng, soprano Allison Oakes and violist German Tcakulov will take up their positions as university professors at the Mozarteum University. International Summer Academy selects 12 award winners Last Saturday, after four intensive weeks under the artistic direction of Hannfried Lucke, the International Summer Academy 2024 came to a very successful end with 55 masterclasses, 13 additional courses and 66 concerts. 550 participants from 53 nations (average age 21) were guests in Salzburg. Twelve up-and-coming artists were honoured and each received 1,000 euros in prize money donated by the City of Salzburg's Cultural Fund.

Awarding of ensemble scholarship The presentation concert of the scholarship holders of the newly created ensemble scholarship A (one-year) Start Up for Ensemble(s) took place in the impressive ambience of Schloss Leopoldskron at the beginning of April. In cooperation with "The International Society of Mozarteum University Salzburg", over 44.000 euros will be made available to students or graduates of the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

In memoriam Igor Ozim The Slovenian-Austrian violinist Igor Ozim taught at the Mozarteum University from 2002 to 2016. He died in Salzburg on 23 March 2024.

A new home - Ziyu He Ziyu He was one of the youngest soloists in the Vienna Philharmonic when he made his debut at the Musikverein under Adam Fischer in 2017 at the age of just 18. The year before, he won both the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg and the Yehudi Menuhin Competition, and in 2014 he was the Eurovision Young Musician of the Year. He is a violinist with the renowned Altenberg Trio.

Guitar spring: concert tour & premiere of the "CumTempora" project The guitar department of the Mozarteum University is starting spring 2024 with an extensive programme: students in the classes of Andrea De Vitis and Laura Young have the unique opportunity to showcase their talent at concerts in Italy, which are made possible as part of an Erasmus collaboration with the renowned Boccherini Conservatory in Lucca (Tuscany).

Andreas Siles-Mellinger receives the Paul Roczek Award 2023 Every year, the Mozarteum University honours students majoring in violin who have shown particular talent and achievement with the Paul Roczek Award, which is endowed with 10,000 euros. Academy Orchestra concert as part of the Mozart Week 2024 With the overture from Axur, re d'Ormus by Antonio Salieri, followed by Joseph Haydn's Sinfonia concertante in B flat major Hob I: 105 and the Prague Symphony in D major K. 504 by Wolfgang A. Mozart, Maestro Ion Marin and the Academy Orchestra of the Mozarteum University will also perform at the Mozart Week in 2024. The orchestra made its debut during Mozart Week 2023.

Ema Krečič wins The Sir Ian Stoutzker Prize 2023 Six finalists out of a total of 19 participants from the Mozarteum University competed yesterday with an overall artistic concept in the string and wind instrument categories for the coveted The Sir Ian Stoutzker Prize 2023, which is once again endowed with 20,000 euros this year. The prize honours an outstanding student personality who knows how to impress with their musical creativity, poetry and unique charisma. The outstanding winner is 25-year-old cellist Ema Krečič.

International Summer Academy selects 12 award winners After four intensive weeks with 520 participants from 51 nations, 51 master classes and 16 additional courses with a focus on musicians' health as well as around 60 public events, the International Summer Academy 2023 came to an end last week with much positive feedback. Twelve young artists were also awarded prizes of 1,000 euros each, sponsored by the Cultural Fund of the City of Salzburg.
