Christian Thielemann conducts the Bläserphilharmonie Mozarteum Salzburg
The people of Salzburg can look forward to a very special concert next March, as Christian Thielemann, General Music Director of the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden and former Artistic Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival, has been invited to guest conduct the Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Orchestra Salzburg.
Since the transfer of artistic direction of the renowned ensemble from Hansjörg Angerer to Andreas Martin Hofmeir, the orchestra has already attracted attention with its unusual programme concepts, and now a real coup has been achieved with the engagement of Christian Thielemann. ‘We were able to convince Christian Thielemann to conduct a purely symphonic wind orchestra for the first time thanks to the fantastic initiative and mediation of Martin Fuchsberger, head of the master's programme in wind orchestra conducting at our orchestra. Of course, the joy at the house is huge,’ says Hofmeir.
Martin Fuchsberger will conduct the preliminary rehearsals and his conducting students are involved in the project with a masterclass. The programme for the concert, which will take place on Sunday, 16 March 2025 at 6 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation, will include works by Strauss, Wagner and Bruckner, Thielemann's core repertoire.
The soloist in the Horn Concerto No. 1 will be the principal horn of the Munich
Philharmonic Orchestra and university professor Matias Piñeira.
