Günther G. Bauer was rector of the then University of Music Mozarteum from 1983 to 1991. He studied acting at this institution when he was young. Later he worked as an actor and director until he finally became professor of acting at the Mozarteum. He was also a successful organizer; for example, he founded the Institute for Play Research, which began its work in 1990. He was also a thoroughly successful writer of radio plays, children's theater pieces, and short stories. In addition, he wrote cultural studies essays about dwarfs, about Salzburg and especially about Mozart.
