in 2010 Stephen Fitzpatrick was appointed Professor of Harp at the Mozarteum University, and since 2018 he has given regular courses at the Royal College of Music in London. One of his particular passions is expanding the repertoire of new music, and several composers* have written new works for him, some of which he recorded as chamber music pieces for "Phono Suecia" in Stockholm. Since 2016 he has been a member of The Boulez Ensemble, founded by Daniel Barenboim.
Stephen Fitzpatrick began playing the piano at the age of four and the harp at the age of seven. He studied both instruments at the Royal College of Music in London, later exclusively the harp with Marisa Robles in London, Edward Witsenburg in The Hague and Sarah Bullen in Chicago. He was then engaged in various orchestras, including the opera orchestra in Gothenburg and on the radio -Symphony Orchestra of Stockholm. In 2000 he was appointed principal harpist of the Staatskapelle Berlin by Daniel Barenboim and has also been a permanent member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra since 2007. In addition, he has performed regularly in various orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Filarmonica della Scala and the NDR Symphony Orchestra. Stephen Fitzpatrick has toured Europe and the USA as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed as a soloist with the English Symphony Orchestra and the Göteborgs Symfoniker. He is a jury member at many competitions, including the German Music Competition, the International Harp Competition in Szeged, Hungary and the ARD Music Competition. Stephen Fitzpatrick taught at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Seville from 2004-2011 and was a lecturer from 2008-2011 at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler in Berlin.
