Sofía López-Ibor
Sofía López-Ibor is a highly experienced music educator and musician, with a deep commitment to fostering musical growth in students of all ages. She studied flute and recorder in Madrid and London, and later pursued advanced music education studies at the Orff Institut in Salzburg, where she specialized in Orff Schulwerk. Over her 40+ years of teaching experience, Sofía has worked with students from diverse backgrounds, helping them explore and develop their musical potential.
Currently, Sofía teaches at The San Francisco School, where she works with young learners to cultivate their musical talents. She also serves as a faculty member for the San Francisco International Orff Levels, training future music educators in the Orff approach. Her contributions to music education extend beyond the classroom through her writings. She has authored multiple articles on Orff Schulwerk and co-authored *Quién Canta Su Mal Espanta* with Verena Maschat, a collection of songs from the Americas. Additionally, she wrote *Blue is the Sea*, a book that focuses on integrating the arts in education.
Sofía's influence in the field has been widely recognized. She has received the Orff Schulwerk Forum Medallion and the Herbst Foundation Award, and was named Teacher of the Year in San Francisco. Known for her passion and dedication, Sofía continues to inspire both students and educators with her expertise and her unwavering commitment to the Orff process, leaving a lasting impact on music education worldwide.
