Alexander Vitlin

Alexander Vitlin completed his music studies at the Leningrad Conservatory (St Petersburg College of Music) as a conductor and pianist. In 1977, he won the All-Russian Competition for Pianists. Before accepting engagements abroad, he was chief conductor at various opera houses in Russia. He taught at the Rubin Music Academy in Jerusalem from 1990 to 1992 and was subsequently solo repetiteur at the Komische Oper Berlin until 1995. Since autumn 2024 he is lecturer for the main subject of accompaniment at the Department of Keyboard Instruments.

In 1994, Alexander Vitlin was appointed professor at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. From 2004, he was engaged as a guest solo repetiteur for the productions of ‘Moses and Aron’ and ‘Boris Godunov’ at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Alexander Vitlin has assisted Maestro Daniel Barenboim at the Salzburg Festival, the Berlin State Opera and Teatro alla Scala Milan. He has been Kapellmeister for opera and ballet at the Staatsoper Berlin since 2009.
Alexander Vitlin's concert activities both as a conductor and pianist have taken him to France, Spain, Austria, Romania, Latvia, Italy, Turkmenistan, the USA, China, Japan and various concert halls and opera houses in Germany. His performances are enthusiastically received everywhere.
