Even in a hyper-eroticized society, hardly any topic is as polarizing as sex work. Whether in feminist debates, political disputes or in private conversations: everyone has an opinion about it. In Johanna Mayrhofer's master's project, sex work as a topic that has always been on the borders of our society was moved from the outskirts to the center of Salzburg in the form of an interactive audio walk.

Sex work is a problem for society. Since time immemorial, attempts have been made to control this type of service through regulations. At first glance, it seems that such measures protect sex workers, but upon closer inspection, one finds that this appearance is deceptive. Rather, these regulations aim to protect society from sex work by marginalizing the sector and stigmatizing those who work in it as "the other."

If there were an alternative, would another, perhaps even feminist brothel be conceivable in Salzburg? The topic of sex work is brought from the border to the center in the form of an audio walk and with the help of the moving bodies of the audience.

Working Borders was Johanna's master project for the MA Applied Theatre - Artistic Theatre Practice and Society at the Mozarteum University, Salzburg.
