Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Visual Arts 2024

The Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Fine Arts in the amount of 10,000 euros, provided by Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein, is being offered by Ö1 for the 17th time this year. The prize serves to promote young talent among students at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the University of Art and Design Linz, the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the University of Art and Design Graz. A special prize on the theme of "Solidarity" is also awarded.

Solidarity Award
(open to students and non-students)

Applicants must be enrolled as regular students at one of the listed universities of the arts. 

  • Applicants must already be in the second stage of their studies (old study regulations) or in the final phase of their Bachelor's or Master's degree programme. 
  • Students who receive one or more scholarships that exceed the total amount of EUR 3,000 per year at the time of submission are excluded from the Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Fine Arts 2024 (with the exception of study grants from the Study Grant Authority). 
  • Students who are in Austria as part of a student mobility programme (ERASMUS, Joint Study, etc.) are excluded from participation.

Submission and submission deadline

  • The submission period for the Ö1 Talent Grant for Visual Arts 2024 begins on 18 March 2024 and ends on 26 April 2024. The submitted works must be sent digitally to the internal submission addresses published by the five art universities as indicated on the notice board. The submitted documents must be labelled "Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Visual Arts 2024".

Publication

The publication for the Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Visual Arts 2024 takes place via:

  • Posting at the above-mentioned art universities (including institutes) by the respective bodies of the art universities
  • Announcement on the website or via newsletter of the five art universities, on oe1.ORF.at and on the websites of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein and Künstlerhaus

Application documents

The application must include:

  • Completed and signed submission form. The form (PDF format) can be found on the website/newsletter of the respective art university.
  • Photos/video stills of three works to be submitted to the jury. They must contain "Jury" in the file name. The resolution of the photo material or stills must be 300 dpi, format: .jpg or .tif. Film, video and sound works must be uploaded to www.vimeo.com or www.youtube.com (access without password). The links must be included in the respective work description.
  • A PDF file with the following content (all texts must be written in German, according to current German spelling):
    • Biographical information (photo, education and information on previous artistic activities such as exhibitions, study trips, participation in competitions, etc.) in accordance with the form requirements in the application form 
    • Short commentary on your own artistic work with a maximum of 500 characters (including spaces) 
    • Information on work plans during the term of the scholarship with a maximum of 500 characters (including spaces)
    • Descriptions of the three works to be submitted. The descriptions must not exceed 500 characters (including spaces) per work. They must be preceded by a small photo/video still of the work and the following information: Title of the work, material, format, year of creation. 
    • In order to convey a comprehensive picture of your own artistic activity, a portfolio with photos and descriptions of other works must be enclosed. 
    • Confirmation of the second stage of studies (1st diploma examination certificate) 
    • Confirmation of studies
    • Only applications with complete information and documents that fulfil the above criteria will be considered! 

Specialist jury

The independent expert jury for the Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Visual Arts 2024 is made up of five external representatives - i.e. not members of the respective professorial college - from the above-mentioned art universities, two representatives universities mentioned above, two representatives of Ö1, two representatives of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein and one representative each of Künstlerhaus and PARALLEL VIENNA 2025 together. 

Selection procedure

Each of the five art universities listed above will make a pre-selection from the submissions received, from which up to two finalists per art university will emerge. The pre-selection process at the universities of the arts must be completed by 31 May 2024. The art universities will then notify the participants they have selected as finalists for the Ö1 Talent Scholarship for Visual Arts 2024.

 

NEW: Special prize "Solidarity" on the occasion of 200 years of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein

In addition to the Ö1 Talent Scholarship, the Ö1 audience will have the opportunity to select a winner. The winner will receive the special "Solidarity" prize, which will be awarded in the amount of 5,000 euros to mark the 200th anniversary of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein. 

We are looking for works that deal artistically with the theme of "Solidarity". Participation is exclusively via the website oe1.ORF.at/solidaritaetspreis. Videos or photos of the works can be uploaded until 31 July 2024, voting ends on 6 September 2024.

All persons whose main residence is in Austria and who have reached the age of 18 are eligible to participate. ORF employees and employees of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein are excluded from the competition. Students applying for the Ö1 Talent Scholarship may not present the same work on oe1.ORF.at/solidaritaetspreis. Participation with a different work is possible.
