Baroque Summer Academy in Siena

Since 2021, the Moarteum University's Department of Early Music has organised a  Baroque Summer Academy in Siena, Italy, as part of the renowned Accademia Musicale Chigiana. The cooperation with Siena's Chigiana Foundation enables the teaching of Early Music in a unique setting influenced by Baroque and Renaissance.

Department
Early Music

 

The academy takes place over the period of one week, with the department's team of lecturers conducting intensive master classes for students from all over the world. In addition to classes, participants can expect concerts by students and faculty, orchestra projects and other activities.

Highlights of the 2023 Academy were the performance of Henry Purcell's opera "Dido & Aeneas", incorporating a prologue and epilogue "Elissa" by Henry Fourès and Elisabeth Gutjahr, in collaboration with the Department of Opera and the Department of Scenography of the Mozarteum University, as well as a laboratory of contemporary music for early instruments under the direction of Simone Fontanelli and Vittorio Ghielmi; it can truly be said that this Summer Academy is among the best of its kind in Europe.
