Maxim Vengerov, an outstanding artistic personality and a world-renowned violinist and conductor, has been working at the Mozarteum University since the 2019/20 academic year. The Grammy Award winner teaches as part of a three-year endowed professorship, and his public master classes are free to attend for those interested.

Born in 1974, the violinist began his career as a soloist at the age of five, won the Wieniawski and Carl Flesch international competitions at the age of 10 and 15 respectively, studied with Galina Turchaninova and Zakhar Bron, made his first recording at the age of 10 and went on to record numerous works for renowned labels such as Melodia, Teldec and EMI, earning him Grammy and Gramophone Artist of the Year awards among others. In 2007, he followed in the footsteps of his mentors - the late Mstislav Rostropovich and Daniel Barenboim - and also turned to conducting. Since then, Vengerov has conducted major orchestras around the world.

Maxim Vengerov is passionately dedicated to the training and promotion of young talent. He has held a variety of teaching positions around the world. He currently holds the Stephan and Viktoria Schmidheiny Endowed Professorship at the University Mozarteum Salzburg and has also been Polonsky Visiting Professor of Violin at the Royal College of Music in London since September 2016.

Maxim Vengerov plays the former Kreutzer Stradivari (1727).
