University Council

The University Council is one of the three governing bodies of the Mozarteum University Salzburg, along with the Rectorate and the Senate. Members of the Council must not be members or employees of the university, nor can they be government employees of the ministry responsible for university affairs.

Of the Council's five members, two are elected by the Senate of the Mozarteum University and two by the Federal Government. At the first meeting of the new period of office, these four members appoint the fifth member of the University Council by mutual agreement. The term of office is limited to five years.

The main duties of the University Council include the election of the Rector and the election of the Vice-Rectors. It is responsible for approving the development plan and the organisational plan. The duties of the University Council are regulated in §21 of the Universities Act 2002.
