Alexander von Pfeil studied stage directing for music-theatre productions at the Hamburg Academy of Music Theatre under Professor Götz Friedrich.


Alexander von Pfeil has staged productions in Kiel, Düsseldorf-Duisburg, Meiningen, Bielefeld, Aachen, Berlin (Deutsche Oper), Hamburg (State Opera), Freiburg, Oldenburg, Gelsenkirchen, Würzburg, Biel/Solothurn and Coblenz.


Besides his work as a stage director he lectures in stage directing at the Frankfurt Academy of Music and Performing Art and at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin where he has a guest professorship.


As successor to Professor Hermann Keckeis he has been professor of music and dramatic performance at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg since October 2016.

In June 2015 he staged Georges Bizet’s Carmen in the Large Studio of the Mozarteum University; in January 2017 he directed Eugene Onegin by Peter Tchaikovsky.
