Christopher Lindinger

Christopher Lindinger was a member of the founding team of the Ars Electronica Futurelab and served as its Co-Director for many years. From 2019 to 2023, he held the position of Vice Rector for Innovation at Johannes Kepler University Linz. From 2022 to 2025, he was part of the founding convention of IT:U (also known as the Digital University Linz). Since October 1, 2023, he has been Professor of Art & Digitality at the University Mozarteum Salzburg.

At the Ars Electronica Futurelab, he worked also as Key Researcher for Virtual Environments from 1997 onwards, leading the development of virtual reality systems that have been applied in numerous artistic installations and performative formats. In 2000, he completed a research fellowship at the Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL) with Dan Sandin. His work further encompasses a wide range of projects at the intersection of virtuality and performative arts, as well as the leadership of several research projects within this thematic cluster, including the PEEK project AR111 (ST)Age of Participation. Together with Gerfried Stocker and Horst Hörtner, he co-conceived Deep Space and subsequently led its technical planning and implementation at the Ars Electronica Center.

In his current role at the University Mozarteum Salzburg, he has secured research funding to establish the X-Reality Lab and initiated the MozXR Framework, with the goal of making immersive art practices more accessible to artists.
