Christoph Rösel was born in Thuringia, received his first piano lessons at the age of five and was a member of the "Thuringian Boys' Choir" at the age of twelve. From 1972 to 1979 he studied singing at the "Franz List" University of Music in Weimar. He received the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy grant from the Ministry of Culture.
Solo engagements have taken him to the German National Theatre in Weimar, the State Theater Dessau and the Semperoper Dresden. He also gave guest lectures at operas in Augsburg, Coburg, Meininger and various other international opera festivals. He has been a soloist at concerts by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Leipzig and Berlin Radio Orchestras and numerous other orchestras with major conductors such as Kurt Masur, Peter Schreier, Wolf-Dieter Hauschild. He gave concerts in Brazil, England, France, Israel, Canada, Luxembourg, Poland, Russia, Spain and Hungary.
As a visiting professor, he taught on various international courses in singing and interpretation. He recorded CDs as well as for radio and television. He took part in international masterclasses such as the Weimar International Music Seminar, the Pollenca Summer Academy and the Stuttgart International Bach Academy. He has won prizes at the International Robert Schumann Competition, the International Covalist Concert Hertogenbosch and the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition.
Since 1992 he has been teaching singing at the Mozarteum University in the Department of Music Education Innsbruck.
