His medical work covers the entire spectrum of communication disorders with a focus on the surgical and conservative treatment of patients with voice disorders, especially professional singers and actors. As the director of one of the most traditional university clinics for voice, speech and hearing disorders, counseling and treatment for hearing loss form a further clinical focus with special expertise in music medicine. In his research, he is particularly concerned with the morphological and functional properties of professional voices and the electrophysiological objectification of hearing and language acquisition.

He is a member of national and international scientific committees in his field, including the board of the German Society for Phoniatrics and Pedaudiology, was President of the 8th Pan-European Voice Conference and is currently Secretary General for PEVOC.
